Research Spotlight | Mariam Mousa

We congratulate Mariam on recently completing her PhD candidacy! Mariam's thesis is currently under examination and her work has already had significant impact – forming a strong foundation for our evidence-based national initiative (see papers here, here and here) and informing translation work. Two additional papers are currently under review with journals – we look forward to sharing these with you soon! Among other things, this year Mariam:

  • Delivered international seminars at the University of Glasgow and University of Warwick.

  • Led a priority-setting study, under the supervision of Associate Professor Jacqueline Boyle, with lead partner Epworth HealthCare. Many thanks to Professor Ingrid Winship and Associate Professor Luis Prado for their partnership and support.

  • Shared insights on women’s careers post-partum, as a panel member on a Preconception, Pregnancy and Postpartum seminar facilitated by Professor Helena Teede.

  • Had a book chapter accepted with AWHL co-authors on stakeholder involvement in organisational change management, capturing the AWHL experience as a case study. Stay tuned for its publication in 2023 by the University of Manchester in a research handbook for leadership in healthcare.

Further reach and translation work this year informed by Mariam’s work includes:

  • Informing Monash Health's Gender Equality Action Plan

  • A Mentoring Essentials seminar for early-career women in healthcare with the Women’s Health Research, Translation and Impact Network (WHRTN) with a national audience of 250 attendees. Access the recording here

  • Development and piloting of a group coaching model in partnership with LinkedIn learning. This was delivered to a national cohort of women in academia within the WHRTN emerging leaders fellowship program.

  • Content review and redesign of the Women in Leadership program in 2022, with introduction of a new structure, drawing on evidence-based research to improve how the program is delivered and received. Participant feedback is informing continued improvement and scaling of the program in 2023.
