Building a strong foundation for implementation and impact

Informed by 20 years of research from our systematic literature review we have been generating further evidence, tailored to context, across our six lead partners in the organisational change management stream – Epworth HealthCare, Monash Health, Cabrini Health, Metro South Health, the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) and the Australian Medical Association (AMA).

To date, 109 in-depth interviews have been conducted with women and men in various leadership positions across medicine, hospital administration and management, nursing and allied health, and across private and public sectors.

Workforce and member perspectives have been sought through AMA and RACMA membership surveys, and workforce data mapping is underway across private and public health services with a survey being developed to capture gaps in data. This work will inform priority-setting within organisations, which precedes intervention co-development and implementation. Our first priority-setting workshop was completed this year, led by Mariam Mousa and Associate Professor Jacqueline Boyle, published here. This work frames how priority-setting will be replicated across other lead partners in the organisational change management stream.

We look forward to expanding our work in 2023, with further focus on:

The experience of trainees and collective action with member organisations, led by paediatrician, adolescent physician and PhD candidate, Dr Jenny Proimos

Nursing leadership and intersectionality, led by critical care nurse and PhD candidate, Mihiri Pincha Baduge.

Career experiences of racially and ethnically minoritised women in medicine, led by qualitative researcher and Masters by Research student, Ifeoluwa Adesina.
